Chelsea stamped their authority on their intentions to expand their trophy cabinet last night by stuffing Wolves 6-0 in the Capitol One Cup Third Round.

The match at Stamford Bridge was all about the current Champions of Europe as Wolves succumbed to a heavy defeat. The palyers looked hungry for success in the league cup and were all over Wolves, with three football goals being scored in the first 20 minutes by Cahill, Bertrand and Mata.

It didn’t end there for Wolves though though,  Romeu scored a penalty on the 53rd minute after Victor Moses was unfairly challenged in the box by Dorus de Vries. Five minutes after Torres scored, followed by Moses himself to finish the rout for the London club.

Moses was one of Chelsea’s lesser talked about transfers during the summer which also saw them sign Eden Hazard and Oscar, having been a regular player for Chelsea’s season so far I think people will start to see him as a good solid signing.

As for Wolves, they are currently sixth in the Championship after being relegated from the Premier League last season. The drumming against the current Premier League leaders won’t phase them too much as the main priority for manager Stale Solbakken is to get Wolves back to the Premier League. Some claim perhaps rightly that the League cup is a distraction that can damage a clubs season, especially for a team like Wolves, but try telling that to the fans!

League Cup surprise packages Crawley Town are always good bets for the Wildcard team, although they are never going to win the cup they always tend to put up a spirited fight and make for tricky opponents  Their game against Swansea proved no exception. Crawley went behind when Michu scored, but pulled it back to 1-1 at the end of the first half. Both teams scored again in the second half, and it was left to Garry Monk to nod home a header on the 90th minute to secure Swansea’s passage into the Fourth Round. With all Swansea breathing a sigh of relief.
