Emerdale cast
York City face their toughest opponents yet – Emmerdale!

It’s not often that fans of well-loved soaps and fans of the beautiful game of football find common ground – in fact, it’s a rarity! But with the upcoming match of York City versus stars of the popular soap Emmerdale on Sunday, both football and soap opera fans are set to be cheering for a whole 90 minutes.

This Sunday 13th May will see Emmerdale football team and members of the York City FC team go head-to-head in a fun and fast-paced match at Bootham Crescent – and you could be watching from the sidelines.

This brilliant match is regularly organised, all in the name of charity. The tickets for this fixture are very affordable, meaning that whether you’re a Dingle or a David McGurk fan, you’ll be able to get in on the action. All the money raised from this event goes to two charities: Once Upon a Smile (which helps families who have lost a parent or child from long-term or terminal illness) and The Island N1 (where volunteers mentor vulnerable youngsters as they go from York’s primary schools to secondaries).

Football matches involving celebrities are a great way to raise money for charities, and with engaging charitable campaigns like Sport Relief making national headlines, it’s no wonder that the Emmerdale vs. York City match continues to be such a resounding success.

As well as competing against York City, the Emmerdale football team have had matches against other charities and even against other soaps, including their Northern rival Coronation Street. The team also battled against the gang from popular drama series set in a school, Waterloo Road – hope they remembered to bring their PE kit!

The York City versus Emmerdale match in 2012 takes place on Sunday 13th May at the York City grounds, Bootham Crescent. The tickets are only £5 – a lot cheaper than some football matches – and you’ll even get the chance to have autographs and photos taken with the Emmerdale and York City teams after the match.

Some of the key players involved in the match include York City’s former players Gordon Staniforth and Christian Fox, and favourite families from Emmerdale including the Sugdens and the Kings. Hopefully the action on the pitch will be just as dramatic as the action in Emmerdale, although the fewer mysterious disappearances, the better.

Why not pop along to Bootham Crescent this Sunday 13th May to see the action for yourself?
